About us

Market Drayton Choral Society is a mixed-voice non-auditioned choir which performs at least two concerts each year in and around North Shropshire. The choir was founded 50 years ago, and has established an excellent reputation for giving high-quality performances of works from across the choral repertoire.

We are a friendly group who rehearse on Wednesday evenings at the Alexandra Road Junior School in Market Drayton 7.45 – 9.30 pm. New members are always welcome. Please explore our website for more information.

Meet our Musical Director, Harry Hitchen

Now living in Market Drayton, Harry was born in Cheshire and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. After graduation, he taught music in several high schools before he became Head of the Stoke-on-Trent City Music Service. Simultaneously, Harry was organist and director of music at four churches, including St Mary’s, Stafford (27 years) and has appeared on BBC Radio and Television as organist/ accompanist for various programmes.

He was also founder and director of the highly successful Pugin Singers, a chamber choir based in the Staffordshire Moorlands. He is very much looking forward to exploring new pastures and musical opportunities with Market Drayton Choral Society.
